Clinical Observation of Acute Drug ntoxication

Abstract
The authors have reviewed a series of 561 inpatients with typhoid fever, who were confirmatively diagnosed and admitted to Inchon Christan
Hospital over a period of 7 years, from January of 1970 December of 1976.
Close observations were done on their clinical
features and complications, and the following results were obtained,
1. The incidence of the patients were persistent through the year, and the seasonal prevalence was predominant in autumn and winter (71.7%), different from other reports.
2. Clinical manifestations on admission were fever (97.0%), chill (82.4%), headache (51.9%), diarrhea (39.2%), general malaise (38. 0%) and abdominal pain (37.6%) in the order of frequency. On the physical examinations, ileocecal tenderness (42.6%), hepatomegaly (31.6%) and splenomegaly (22.1%) were noticed in the order of frequency.
3. Widal reaction was positive, defined as a titer of 1 : 160, in 427 cases (83.4%) out of 512 cases, which positive reactions were occurred within 3rd week of the disease (69.3%).
4. The blood culture for Salmonella typhi was positive in 104 cases (73.8%) out of 141 cases, which of them were almost in the 1st week of . the disease, and that of stool was positive in 66 cases (19.1%) out of 345 cases, which of them were almost in the 4th-5th week of the disease.
5: Complications were developed in 171 cases (30.0%)
